Keeping Up Personal Appearances

We are more interested than ever before in celebrities. In fact the entire past decade was dominated by glossy magazines. Celebrity has done nothing but grow since the turn of the century. Now, they’re not just in everything you read, they’re making personal appearances at the events you go to.

Yes, celebrities really are everywhere. And I don’t just mean nobodies who got kicked out of X Factor in the first week. it’s not just wannabes who are doing it. I mean it; you can book almost anyone, as long as you find their agency.

I confess I didn’t see this trend coming. I’d always thought celebrities’ lives were far too busy and glamorous for them to have the time to attend parties, discos, supermarket openings or canine beauty contests (all true)! How wrong I was. I wonder if the recession is behind this surge in personal appearances; the appearer does charge a fee after all. Or maybe a desire to be seen in the most clubs is a source of rivalry for celebrities.

But it wouldn’t be fair to make generalisations. Some celebrities do have positive thigns to contribute. They’re famous for their acting, their cooking, their campaigning or their sporting prowess. Celebrities like this can make personal appearances interesting. Some celebrities do use their personal appearances to positively influence others, by encouraging people to support charity for examples. Some just like to meet their fans.

Stereotypically, personal appearances are all about attractive bimbos visiting clubs. There’s nothing wrong per se with using appearances like that to promote businesses. However, there is so much more than simple promotion that can be achieved through personal appearances. Some celebrities have more to say than we realise and feel strongly about major issues. If you just want a celebrity in you nightclub to get a crowd in, that’s fair enough. But don’t turn you back on celebrity appearances altogether. If you dig a little deeper you might see that a celebrity could really boost your event and your cause.
