Many people could benefit from an acne diet. We’ve all heard that chocolate gives you pimples. We almost all have. If you think about it its not so far-fetched that by watching your diet you could prevent acne.

But, an acne diet is a very hard thing to establish. This is very personal and its based on your body’s unique response to certain foods. There are guidelines, but each individual’s progress will mostly be trial and error. Make sure you are keeping an eye on your skin. Keep a journal. You could even take pictures a few times a week. If and when your acne diminishes stick to the diet plan you are on at the time.

The following are some easy guidelines to help get you started on an acne diet:

* Eat more protein - Many dermatologists are under the belief that protein is connected with clearer skin. The reason for this belief is because protein has an enzyme that will limit the production of oils. Oily skin tends to be more prone to breakouts.

* Don’t eat carbs - You don’t have to completely cut carbs out. But you do need to limit them so that they are only about 40 percent of your diet. This is because carbohydrates can stimulate oil production. This is why common knowledge says that junk food leads to acne. Actually it is just that junk food is high in carbs.

* Green tea is a must - If you can, drink real green tea. The best type of green tea is the kind that you brew. However, if you really don’t like it, then try the natural green tea drinks. Green tea will restrain the production of androgen. Androgen is a hormone that will cause your skin to breakout.

* Restrict your salt intake - Iodine is almost always located within salt. This is the reason we usually call table salt “iodized salt.” For some people with acne, iodine can be a major inflammatory agent.

It is very important to watch what you eat and put on your face. If you have acne you are already aware of what ingredients are in your facial products. You should only use moisturizers without oil and natural and organic skin care products. Products containing natural ingredients will least likely irritate your skin. Mineral makeups are a good investment, if you wear makeup. Many dermatologists believe that mineral makeup can actually alleviate acne problems and enhance the results of your acne diet.
